More than 250 delegates gathered at the local DFL convention last weekend (March 21), coming together to participate in one of the most important traditions in Minnesota's political process: choosing the candidates who will carry the party's banner into the general election.
The convention brought together DFL activists, volunteers, and elected precinct delegates from across the district to hear directly from candidates, ask questions, and ultimately cast their votes. This grassroots process is at the heart of how the DFL selects its endorsed candidates each election cycle.
Delegates endorsed three candidates for the Minnesota Legislature:
Senator Liz Boldon — endorsed for the Minnesota Senate
Representative Kim Hicks — endorsed for the Minnesota House of Representatives
Representative Andy Smith — endorsed for the Minnesota House of Representatives
Earning the DFL endorsement is a meaningful milestone. It signals that a candidate has the support of the party's most engaged members and is positioned to run a strong campaign heading into the fall. Endorsed candidates can count on the backing of the local DFL organization, including volunteers, resources, and get-out-the-vote efforts.
Conventions like this one are also a chance for everyday Minnesotans to get more involved. Attendees don't just vote — they connect with campaigns, sign up to volunteer, and help shape the direction of their community. If you weren't able to make it this year, consider getting involved at your local precinct caucus.
Congratulations to Senator Boldon, Representative Hicks, and Representative Smith on their endorsements. We look forward to supporting them on the road ahead.
